What kind of puppy have you thought about getting recently? With more young people and millennials opting out of having and the overwhelming growing population of animals in shelters, many folks are going the route of the animal! Fur babies and dogs are on the rise with many households and it's no surprise seeing that owning a dog is a ton of responsibility, but if done right it can be very rewarding to own one. Choosing the right dog for you is extremely difficult because so many factors go into the decision like the yard you have, the size of your house, do you want a active dog or low maintenance dog (Is there even such a thing?), big or small?, so much can go into making the decision. Which is why I’m writing this article today, to answer the question, are pitbulls really dangerous?

The short answer to this is no — Pitbull’s are no more dangerous than a golden retriever and that says something. Pitbulls throughout history have been touted and portrayed in the media as vicious blood sport animals that were bred to fight. Time and time again have they been on the front page of every media outlet there is displaying aggressive behavior towards humans and other animals. I have grown up around pitbulls my whole life, and there is something about them that has a grace and grit to their strong personalities. A very humble yet passionate animal who just wants to be loved for the dog they are. If anyone is to blame here it would be the humans who bred these dogs to be nothing more than amusement and entertainment to have them either fight to the death or have them fight in groups to the death — THEY WANTED PITBULLS TO HAVE AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR. When we as humans can accept the fact that we had a HUGE roll in the way that pitbulls and terriers have been portrayed we can move towards a healthier relationship between human and dog. Pitbulls are not dangerous dogs, maybe it's us humans that are really that dangerous.

Do you agree?
